It is true that necessity is the mother of invention.
I was really getting tired of trying to tame unruly collars, even with traditional metal collar stays. I found myself constantly adjusting my shirt collar to prevent it from getting flat, especially when wearing a jacket. Since a flat collar is not my favorite look, I thought that it would be great to have a device that supports the entire shirt collar when not wearing a tie.
The process of inventing this device started at my local hardware store, trying to find the right metal that has the right flexibility and weight. The process then moved to my garage where I built my first prototype.
After using it for a few months, I realized that I could share this device with my family and friends. All of the positive feedback that I received, and the additional prototypes that I made for my friends because they just had to have one, gave me the courage to take my idea from the garage to production.
